Tales of the Dark Crystal

About Tales of the Dark Crystal by the author
I awakened in my chair one rainy evening to see a tall golden haired creature of another species standing by my window. I stood up as she turned and smiled. 'What manner of being are you?' I asked. 'I am moirai,' she replied in a deep husky voice. 'I dwell inside another dimension parallel to thee.'

I looked up, startled. The ancient Greeks gave the name Moira to the three Fates. And they had much power.

'Aye,' my visitor replied, 'my species is quite similar to the word thee are thinking. But our story is quite different.'

I sat back down, she had read my mind -- I had said nothing. Clearing my throat, I replied courteously, 'I should like to hear your story, then, if you choose to tell it.' My visitor sat on the floor in front of me and replied with a most disarming smile, 'Excellent! Breathe deeply, relax thy mind and listen...'

But instead of hearing words, my mind was filled with pictures -- not a slide show, you must understand, but 360 degrees of total immersion. And when my guest, for by then I thought of her as a guest, had finished I wrote down everything I had seen.

And that is how this book was written ... Tales of the Dark Crystal is an adventure whose aim is to enchant and provoke the reader. A smattering of philosophy will be encountered within these pages in an effort to nourish the spirit. It is not a story for children, the species within these pages do have libidos after all.

But on rainy evenings, I sit in my chair and smile, remembering the golden haired moirai and the strange tale she told me about an old woman and a Shadow ... come here, sit in this chair ... join me.

Taming the Wild Pendulum
Published in Paperback by Top of the Mountain Pub (January, 1995)
Authors: Tag Powell, Yvonne Fawcett, and Judith Powell
Average review score:

Not limited to one audience. Good for beginer or advanced.
This book is well written for either the beginer, or someone looking to expand their usage of dowsing devices and pendulums. Not limited to a narrow target audience, most anyone would find the information both useful and entertaining. I have used the information and improved my skills and understanding by a great margin. Some one "confiscated" my first copy, so I am buying another!

The Tarot
Published in Paperback by Berkley Pub Group (November, 1988)
Author: Nancy Shavick
Average review score:

Enlightened, Spiritually Based Interpretations of Tarot
Nancy Shavick's "The Tarot" is a clearly written guide for interpretting the tarot from an enlightened, spiritually based perspective. The card interpretations are positive, insightful and growth-focused. Nancy's interpretations, when put into practice can lead individuals to more fully understanding their life lessons, and how to create change to address both inner and worldly issues.

"The Tarot" is written in such a way that it would be appropriate for both the novice as well as the experienced tarot reader. It provides the "how-tos" of conducting a reading which the novice would find easy to follow. Additionally, Nancy's unique interpretations would be appreciated by many experienced tarot practioners. The interpretations address topics that are of interest to most individuals (e.g. relationships, work, creativity, personal goals). Most notibly, the book is conscise and does not overwhelm the reader with excessive dialogue, spreads, or cumbersome techniques.

The Thunder Rolls (Crystal Creek, No 8)

From the back...
Ken Slattery, foreman at the Double C, knows what he wants. He wants Nora Jones. But Nora already has a man in her life-her eight-year-old son, Rory. Besides, her ex-husband has threatened to kill any man who stakes a claim on her...and he's on his way home to Crystal Creek for the holiday weekend.

My opinion...
As foreman of the McKinney ranch, Ken has been mentioned several times in previous books. Nora, of course, is always waiting on half the town of Crystal Creek, at her mother-in-law Dottie's Coffee shop. Nora is afraid to get involved with any man after her disastrous marriage. Her ex-husband beat her both physically and emotionally. Nora is scared by the feelings that she has for Ken. Nora is also scared her ex-husband would hurt her or Ken if he ever found out they were involved. This was a wonderful story with a heart stopping ending. This was one of the better books in the Crystal Creek series.

Victorian Mouse review
Simply delightful paper doll collection. Kids and adults (like me) are sure to enjoy it. The drawings and details are wonderful. There is a different dress theme on every page. Not only are there costumes to cut out, but there are different objects (i.e. christmas tree). I recommend this book to anyone who truely loves paper dolls.

Wind Crystal (Westria, No. 6)
Published in Paperback by Tor Books (March, 1990)
Author: Diana L. Paxson
Average review score:

Paxon's The Wind Crystal
The sixth book in the Westria Series, the Wind Crystal is another fine effort from Diana Paxson. Julian's battle continues, as he works to preserve the Kingdom from the destructive power of Caolin, the Blood Lord, and his minions. Searching for the Wind Crystal, he grows and changes to fit the needs of the Land.

The story line is strong, the background at once reminiscent of several different folklores and also original in its own right. There is strong emphasis on music and lyric, its power to heal or destroy, which was quite pleasing.

Overall, a very enjoyable book, I read this all in one sitting.
